Welcome back to those of you who have previously participated in the Operations Excellence Safety Program, and to those participating for the first time. Drivers, handlers and administrators of petroleum products have a personal responsibility to always follow safe operating procedures and never take short cuts while doing their job. Active participation in the 2020 Operations Excellence Safety Program will renew your focus on safety as well as provide you with an opportunity to test your knowledge to learn and earn valuable awards.

We acknowledge that this year has been tough due to circumstances beyond control. We wanted to extend our most sincere thanks to our Esso branded resellers and their diligence in working hard to keep our customers and colleagues safe. Times like this go to show how important your role is in following safe operating procedures. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Safety is a value. Incidents are preventable if you do your job only when it is safe to do so. Remember, no task should be done unless it can be performed safely. The value of safety should be exercised both on and off the job so that doing any job safely at all times becomes a good habit.

The following are a few important safety practices to keep in mind to prevent incidents:

1. Use the Stop, Think, and Act Tool
2. Always practice safe driving principles
3. Always wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment
4. Complete a pre and post trip inspection to correct unsafe vehicle and equipment operating conditions
5. Conduct a route risk assessment to identify the safest route, weather and road conditions
6. Identify hazards at delivery locations
